DIGIC III Digital Image Processor

Canon’s proprietary high speed DIGIC III processor with improved algorithms which contribute not only accelerating startup speed by 30%, but also allows minimizing noise effectively with true color results.

Enhanced Face Detection Function

The new Digital IXUS 860 IS digital camera series with Face Detection features advanced recognition capabilities exceeding those of the human eye. Couple with DIGIC III imaging processor, Face Detection can identify human faces in the picture and optimize the exposure for the detected object. During standby mode, the camera can track up to 3 faces, and can track up to 9 faces pushing half way on the shutter to ensure clarify. This technology ensures that faces are captured taken with high accuracy and it is especially useful for taking portraits and group photos capturing the best moods with real colors. Enhanced Face Detection Technology also automatically detects the contour of a face and adjusts flash exposure. This can guarantee the best effect even the subjects are dressed in whatever color or are not located at the center of the frame.

Furthermore, Digital IXUS 860 IS features Red-eye Correction function during playback. The camera can automatically detect “red eye” in portrait shots. User can immediately correct them during playback by the photo restoration program.

Built-in Optical Image Stabilizer (IS)

Digital IXUS 860 IS equipped with Image Stabilizer (IS) using gyroscopic sensors to detect vertical and horizontal movements and utilizing a ceramic sphere support system to control the corrective movement of lens to provides effective, acute and speedy reaction to minimize vibration and blurry images during shooting process, allow users to produce sharp images. Super Clear PureColor LCD Monitor And Touch Controls

The new camera also equipped with an easy-to-view 230,000-pixel high resolution 3-inch PureColor LCD with color reproduction ability 33% stronger than a regular LCD and can show finer and richer colors. The PureColor LCD also provides a higher contract ratio than a regular LCD and enables to view every detail of an image.

In addition, having a wider viewing angle, the PureColor LCD monitor not only increases users to shot from different angles, but also allows more people to view the images during playback.

With multiple anti-glare coating, the new LCD monitor is resistant to scratch, fingerprints and dust, and less reflective to light that makes it easier for viewing images, even in glaring sunlight.

To maximize the full potential of the large LCD monitor, Digital IXUS 860 IS incorporates an expanded Touch Wheel system. Users can toggle quickly between settings with a twirl of the button and get quick access and control of the various functions at your fingertips and the PuerColor LCD will immediately show the results of your choice.

The combination of the 8.0-megapixel CCD and DIGIC III image processor gives Digital IXUS 860 IS uncompromising image quality despite its slim and highly portable body.

Precise AF Frame Function

For more accurate focusing, Digital IXUS 860 IS come equipped with an newly design Precise AF Frame function that reduces the size of the AF frame (approximately 25% of the original size) for subjects that are too small or difficult to focus on, enable users not to miss any precious moments anytime, anywhere.

Focus Check Function

Users can use the newly added Image Inspection Tool in Digital IXUS 860 IS to display a magnified section next to each captured shot straight after shooting, restore the true beauty of a capture image. Users can even choose to view the magnified image of particular focused face.

New Image Resize function

Digital IXUS 860 IS also incorporates a new Image Resize function, allows quick re-sizing into three sizes (1,600 x 1,200, 640 x 480 and 320 x 240) during playback, for users who often post their photos online through blogs and websites, or via email for friends to enjoy. The resized images can be saved as a new image to prevent accidental loss of the originals.

3-level Battery Status Display Mode

In order to allow users comprehend the battery status, the new Digital IXUS 860 IS also features a 3-level display of battery power so that users are not caught off-guard without power. Users can take photos and video anywhere with no difficulty.

17 Shooting Modes

Digital IXUS 860 IS provides 17 different shooting modes, such as night snapshot, firework, aquarium etc. User can choose the most suitable shooting modes with preset optimum setting to take the best pictures.

Auto ISO Shift counters shaking

Digital IXUS 860 IS supports ISO 1600. It can take perfect shots at night in minimal lighting and in environment where use of flashlight is prohibited. The Auto ISO Shift function works automatically to detect lighting situations and will remind user of inadequate lighting and the best ISO exposure can be achieved at one touch, allowing the user to make sure of the quality of images taken.

Time Lapse Movies

Digital IXUS 860 IS also supports the taking of Time Lapse Movies Shooting function and LP shooting mode. Time Lapse Movies Shooting function records one frame per second or per two seconds of a movie for playback at 15 frames per second. The camera is the idealistic choice to record events from a fixed perspective, such as the spectacle of sunset over time, or view changing elements in a short period.
